LEGO World 2017 – Event Report

Having just had the amazing chance to not only attend, but also exhibit my work at LEGO World 2017 in Copenhagen, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to highlight some of the incredible architecture MOCs on display in the Fan Zone!

LEGO World was hosted at the Bella Center in South Copenhagen.  Attached to the convention center is the Hotel Bella Sky, which Byggepladden (the Danish RLUG) have stunningly recreated in a display at the hotel lobby.

First on the list of displays in the Fan Zone is the expansive Brick Abyss by Kathleen Aldinger and Oliver Laferriere. This fantastical layout took the two of them about fourteen hours to set up!  The various rock dwellings are very realistically detailed and provide fun settings for all the comings and goings of this bustling center of commerce on the high seas!

One of my favorite details are these Norwegian-style fish-drying structures.  You can almost imagine the smell; for better or for worse!

Lasse Vestergård built the Roskilde Cathedral through the ages.  With each subsequent iteration, you can watch the building change before your eyes.

This Medieval layout was of particular interest for its level of realism.  My favorite part were the cluster of buildings, pictured here in the mid-ground, that sit askew from the rest of the village grid, and create a dynamic, winding streetscape between them.

Next up is the massive Amalienborg layout!  For those who might not know, Amalienborg is home to the Royal Palace for the Danish Monarchy as well as Frederick’s Church, all organized along a central axis.  Across the channel, is the Copenhagen Opera House.
